"ALISARDA, a company with entirely private capital, was established in March 29th 1963 on the
initiative of HH Prince Aga Khan with the objective of favouring the development of the tourist
industry in the Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda), which is located in the north-eastern coast of
Sardinia, then accessible only by sea. in January 2003 Meridiana launched its new position, well
proven by the new pay off "Low cost - High quality" by introducing its new commercial strategy
based on a policy of one-way prices starting from 9 euro, combined with a traditional level of
service. In 2003 Meridiana transported more than 4 million passengers, registering an increase
of 14% compared with the year before. in February 2004 Meridiana launched its Smart-fly offer:
the first product for the business market with low-price costs on flights from Rome and Milano
Linate and vice versa and from Rome and Verona and vice versa, starting form 9 euro. I n 2004
Meridiana transported approximately 3,600,000 passengers, confirming even more its own identity
as a Low Cost – High Quality airline and guaranteeing highly competitive prices as well as maximum
levels of reliable standards and quality."
